Soap Making Workshop

6:30pm - 7:30pm

Make your own fun and quirky swirl soap using a glycerin based soap, colorful soap curls, color, cosmetic glitter and a variety of scents. We will discuss the process of making cold process soap, the blending of essential oils and the role of exfoliants in soap making. There is no lye exposure since the process does not involve traditional soap making techniques. Once the concoction has cooled slightly, we will add the glitter, colors, essential oil (optional) and embed the soap curls. At the end of the workshop, each participant will take their handmade creation home, it can be unmolded the following day and used right away. Soap is approximately 5.50 oz. and overall measurements of 6” x 2.75”.

This is a workshop for adults, children will not be allowed to attend due to the manual dexterity needed to cut the soap. Sorry, no exceptions will be made.

These soaps will make great holiday gifts or a nice way to pamper yourself this coming holiday season.  Please register by stopping by the circulation desk or by calling 583-3408.

Happy Hour Book Club discusses Alternate Side by Anna Quindlen

6:45pm - 7:55pm

The tensions in a tight-knit neighborhood—and a seemingly happy marriage—are exposed by an unexpected act of violence in this provocative new novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Miller’s Valley and Still Life with Bread Crumbs.

Some days Nora Nolan thinks that she and her husband, Charlie, lead a charmed life—except when there’s a crisis at work, a leak in the roof at home, or a problem with their twins at college. And why not? New York City was once Nora’s dream destination, and her clannish dead-end block has become a safe harbor, a tranquil village amid the urban craziness. Then one morning she returns from her run to discover that a terrible incident has shaken the neighborhood, and the fault lines begin to open: on the block, at her job, especially in her marriage. With humor, understanding, an acute eye, and a warm heart, Anna Quindlen explores what it means to be a mother, a wife, and a woman at a moment of reckoning.
