Banned Books Week movie: The Wizard of Oz

Banned Books Week is September 23-29, and we celebrate it each year to encourage freedom from censorship. You'd be amazed at some of the books have been banned or challenged, including - that's right, L. Frank Baum's famous Oz books! So we're going to show the classic movie based on one of those books; and you can pick up some info on Banned Books Week or some of the original Oz books while you're here!

A Magic Display by The Society of American Magicians will be viewable in our lobby display case during the month of October to mark Magic Month.

 

Storytime for 3 - 5 year olds

10:00am

This fall’s storytime theme is “All About Families,” a six-week session of stories about parents, grandparents, siblings, even pets!

Each storytime includes about 30 minutes of stories, finger-plays, songs and games related to that week’s theme, followed by a craft project and a snack; the total storytime runs approximately 60 minutes.

Sketchy Ato

3:00pm - 5:00pm

Drop-in with your sketch pad, grab one of the teen section’s comfy chairs, draw anything you want including manga, comics, western, & etc., work on a group story, and/or share your art (if you want) with fellow art maniacs! Drawing challenges will be offered each session! For middle & high schoolers.

Sing With Me! Music Program for Preschoolers & Their Grown-ups

If you have a little one who loves music, this program is for you! Join us for a half-hour of adult-&-child singing, clapping, and stomping along to favorite kids’ songs, with occasional musical instruments or accompanying books thrown in! No need to register, just drop in! Please note that adult participation is expected for this program - and it's fun!

Pop Culture Collective

3:00pm - 6:00pm

Unite for an afternoon of broad-spectrum fandom! Each week will have a different theme - anime, Pokemon, Steven Universe, Star Wars, cosplay, superheroes, & more - discuss, play, watch, and geek out! 

This club is open to ages 16 - 22, and all are welcome!
