VIRTUAL PROGRAM: Weekly visit with the Memphis Zoo!

11:00am - 12:00pm

 

The Hubbard Library has arranged an exclusive weekly visit with the Memphis Zoo in Memphis, Tennessee!

Senior Veterinarian Felicia Knightly will spend an hour each week giving an insiders view of what it's like to take care of the animals physically and medically, show us training sessions, and get up close and personal in a way you'd never get with a live zoo visit!

A virtual storytime especially for older kids! Meet Youth Services Librarian July in your own living room each Wednesday afternoon to "walk a mile" in the shoes of different real-life people! Each week July will will read picture book biographies about real people, some famous and some not, who have inspiring and fascinating stories.

This program will be offered through video conferencing for a fully interactive program, and thanks to the magic of green screen technology, it will look like you're sitting right in the library!

Things You Learn When You Write The Dictionary

While The Dictionary is frequently called upon to justify positions and settle debates, most people know relatively little about how dictionaries are made and what their aims are. Join Merriam-Webster Senior Editor Emily Brewster for a peek into a lexicographer's view of The Dictionary. We'll discuss language change, annoying words, and just how it is that a term like "chillax" comes to qualify for dictionary entry.
