The Hubbard Library is proud to be a participant in this year's Mass Kids Lit Fest!

Mass Kids Lit Fest is a new initiative of the Massachusetts Center for the Book. This children’s and teen book festival, timed to Children’s Book Week, is launching across Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin counties from May 6 –12, 2024, in partnership with libraries, museums, community organizations, and public schools across the Pioneer Valley.

The Hubbard Library is thrilled to welcome reknowned author Erin Dionne, who will conduct a writing workshop for tweens & teens. Using her book "Lights, Camera, Disaster" as inspiration, students will do fun writing activities and learn a bit how authors write books. After discussing how authors create memorable characters, Erin will lead participants in looking at who our characters are and what they want. They will then create their own characters and give them a problem to solve. Finally, Erin will show participants the power of a strong opening and how to write one themselves. Attendees will write, discuss, and have time for Q & A.

Erin Dionne writes middle grade novels, picture books, chapter books and nonfiction. Her most recent books are a spooky chapter book series called Shiver-by-the-Sea (Pixel + Ink) . Her latest novel for tweens is Secrets of a Fangirl (Scholastic 2019). She loves action movies, mint chip ice cream, and raises a ridiculous amount of houseplants.  When not writing, she’s a professor at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA.

If you've got a creative writer or budding author, don't miss this special opportunity!
